ARTIST STATEMENT

Interdisciplinary artist Tiree Taylor (B. 1999 Scotland, based in Edinburgh) reflects on stories from their childhood to process their experience of growing up with a parent suffering from a substance use disorder (SUD), and their subsequent death in 2021. Compassion is integral to their work and the dialogue they hope to create around SUDs. Through storytelling and sharing the complexities of their dad’s illness, they hope to reframe the deep-rooted and detrimental stigma faced by those struggling with SUDs and encourage others to do the same.

Tiree’s work advocates for compassion and connection above shame and punishment and recognises that healing and recovery thrives in supportive communities.
